Growing an avocado from the pit or seed is a hot trend right now. Growing food from scraps in general is actually pretty popular right now. And I love it all. But today, I’m writing about growing a peach tree from a pit! Now, I haven’t exactly succeeded at this but I’m in the process! This essay is about my experience, not a how to.
Ok, so here’s the story –
I, like everyone else, have done the avocado tree thing. And it’s great – I have them in water and in pots all over the house. But have you tried growing a peach tree from a pit? Well, on September 6th of 2021 I gave it a shot. Fast forward to June 11th of 2022 when I remembered and found this!
Can you see the yellow/ green peaking through the bag of soil?

IT’S THE ROOTED peach seed! Sake and I verified.

Now originally this was supposed to be in the refrigerator for about 2 months to go through the stratification process. You can google the definition – But really you’re just recreating a winter environment and signaling the seed when to grow. I probably checked it several times the first month. Nothing, as expected since I had read it would take about 2 months. Month two, still checking, no growth. Month 3, still nothing. So I’m feeling like I got duds for seeds. It’s just in the back of my fridge, so I leave it there just in case. I totally forget about it because it’s been months now and it’s in the depths of the black hole that is my fridge. Boom, 9 months later while rummaging through the fridge we see growth! I say we because My Fiance, Grace, was there too. She actually found the bag. So we planted them and we’re going to see what happens.
It may have been in the cold too long but we will see!
I will update in the coming weeks/ months to let you know if they survive!
